Guidelines for Contributors: Submissions for Articles

CAHCE requests articles submitted for publication on the CACHE website follow the guidelines below:

  • Original work: articles should be original work of the author(s). Modification or adjustment of previously published articles can be accepted if there is significant changes to over 30% of the content.
  • Re-submission to other publishers: Once the article has been published on CACHE for two months, the same article may be submitted to other publishers, with the provision that the author informs the other publishers that the article originated on the CACHE website, and the CACHE website is referenced in the later publications.
  • Length: Articles should be between 500 and 2000 words.
  • Links, Videos, Graphics and Photos: It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that all links to external references or sites are correct and work on the CACHE site. Photos, short videos and graphics may be included in the article. Any photo, graphic (e.g. graphs) or videos should reference their origin, and original authors. It is the responsibility of the author to ensure all references are correct.
  • Target Audience: CACHE’s primary audience for articles and other publications on its website are: hypnotherapists, clinical and other counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists and educators using hypnosis, or who are interested in using hypnosis in their practice. While some articles may be considered whose target is the interested lay person or potential clients with issues that can be treated by hypnosis, our primary audience is intended to be the professional counselling hypnotherapist practioner.
  • Scholarly Articles – Style and Structure: The writing style does not have to be in the format or style of a formal article for scholarly journals. CACHE accepts articles that are written in an informal style and are presenting a perspective on hypnotherapy treatment or practice. However, if the article is presented as a scholarly article or research in a particular area of hypnotherapy practice, then the following guidelines should be observed:
    • References and Acknowledgements: Quotes, references and acknowledgements to other sources the authors referred to should be made either in the text or in footnotes or in a bibliography for further reading. All references and acknowledgements should follow literary and academic standards. (see our links below for scholarly article guidelines).
    • Style should be present tense, with short clear sentence structure and intent to provide clarity on the subject: “ clarity should be the guiding principle. In general, the purpose of a scientific manuscript is to construct a clearly written document that describes a question and then logically presents an answer to this question that is based upon theoretical or experimental results.” (Source: Guidelines for Writing a Research Paper for Publication, Mary Ann Liebert Publications, https://www.liebertpub.com/media/pdf/English-Research-Article-Writing-Guide.pdf).
    • Structure for scholarly or research articles should include:
  • Title Page
  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Acknowledgements
  • References
  • Tables and Table Captions (as required)
  • Figure and Figure Captions (as required)
  • Opinion Pieces: Informal or opinion pieces about hypnotherapy treatments, successful (or unsuccessful) case histories, or other topics are welcome. Style and content should still include an introductory paragraph outlining the topic and primary perspective of the article, and the article should still have a decisive conclusion for the reader (e.g. “upon personal reflection with this case, I would NOT encourage colleagues to use this treatment for a weight loss client.”).
    • References and Acknowledgements: As with more scholarly articles, informal opinion pieces should always clearly reference sources when facts, research, graphs or other external information is being presented as fact.
  • Topics: Topics can include:
    • Opinions about particular hypnotherapy treatments, instruments, tools or scripts.
    • Book, video, research papers or article reviews
    • Tips and hints about starting, maintaining, building or enhancing a hypnotherapy counselling practice
    • Opinion pieces about the industry trends or regulations, including pieces with opinions about professional ethics, industry associations , regulation, memberships and organization.
  • Publication Process and Schedule: Articles sent to CACHE for publication should be sent via email to: info@cachecanada.com . Articles will be reviewed within 30 days and some suggestions for modifications may be suggested to the author. The author reserves the right not to publish the article if they do not agree with any suggested edits or changes. CACHE reserves the right to refuse publication without any reason given. Authors will receive an email confirmation that the article has been approved for publication. Articles that are approved for publication are usually published on the website within 30 days of the approval. CACHE may hold some articles for later publication if a topic for that article is being promoted during a certain period (month or quarter) in the year.
